Sand from hurricanes – what do they do with it?

31 viewsOther

I am looking at pictures of some of the islands and coastal areas in Florida after the hurricane came through. I see them “plowing the streets just to make them passable.

What do they do with all of that sand after the hurricanes cause that kind of damage? Obviously they have to truck it somewhere, but where? Ideally (maybe) they could dump it back in the ocean, but I can’t imagine how they would do that. Maybe dump it on the beach? But not sure what problems that would cause.

It seems like you have to get the sand out before you can really start any kind of rebuilding and repair from the water and wind damage.

What a nightmare and my heart goes out to everyone affected everywhere.

They have to dump it likely into a hazardous waste landfill as it is contaminated and you wouldn’t want that back on a public beach.
