sand on the beach

How does the sand on a beach not get washed away by the tide? Why does it not all end up at the bottom of the river / sea?

To my knowledge it does get washed away. Sand accumulates in very specific parts of the coast as it’s carried by the currents. Some places lose their sand as currents change and people sometimes build structures to prevent that. a lot of sand does come from rivers which is why they’re often mined for sand.
