When our son was born it was 1-2 hours sleep, awake for 30 mins for about 8 weeks. So wife and I would switch out, getting 2-3 hours at a time. I usually only sleep 6-7 hours a night anyways, and I prefer two sleeps to break it up as I am getting older and stiffening up.

Sleeping just 3 hours at a time won’t allow your body to enter REM-sleep, which is essential for proper testing.

New mothers will sleep this way as babies will not sleep through the night. It takes a little getting used to.

Originally humans slept in a two part night first sleep was about 4 hours then a two hour wake for bathroom and other bodily “necessities”. It stopped because of the electricity. Since we could light up the dark more easily and wide spread we could stay up later. I don’t remember where I saw but I think they did studies that with only natural lighting we would eventually go back to that.
