Small animals don’t seem to get hurt from loud noises. How come?

Humans and other mammals feel pain when exposed to loud noises, but small animals (insects, birds, etc) can be around traffic for example and not die from the reverberation. How can they bear that proportionately much better than we can?

Adaptation. Most living beings eventually get used to regular audio patterns in their environment. If you’ve ever been in a jungle at night there’s quite the cacophony of noise, which all the animals that live there are used to and don’t bitchpost on social media about. There is a decibel threshold though, hence why you never see pigeons or foxes hanging out by a runway.
