sometimes when i sleep, i do so with both of my eyes open. what’s the internal process that’s preventing me from seeing what my eyes see while that’s happening? how come i don’t see both the waking and dream world sort of layered over each other?

not an expert in any field, but I’m assuming it’s the same reason why you can lose awareness of your surroundings while in deep thought.
