tachometers in automatic cars?

I get that seeing the tachometer is important for manual cars, but I drive an automatic. It exists, but when I drive I never look at it. So why are they on automatic cars?

There are some problems with the car you might notice or diagnose using the tach.

There is not reason they need to get as much space as they do. My first automatic car was a 1992. The tach was tiny and that was fine.

I would guess the reason its large is because people want to pretend they are in the Fast and the Furious.
