How does a temperature sensor work in a refrigerator and a thermostat?

They work with a relationship between 2 metals. As the temperature changes the resistance or voltage produced between them (different styles) changes the observable voltage through the circuit and a basic computer converts this to a temperature because the change is consistent and known.
