The summer months have more hours of daylight than the winter months, because of the tilt of the Earth on its axis.
Some politicians noticed that many more people use electricity in the evening to stay up after the Sun has set than in the morning to get up before the Sun rises.
Since the geometry of the Earth added time before noon and after noon in equal amounts, and that’s not aligned with energy use the politicians decided to “fix” things and save energy by moving the clocks.
Since politicians are idiots, it’s not like we should really do this, but still it seems to occur outside sane places like Arizona.
