The difference between Ant and Roach Killer, Flying insect Killer, House and Garden Spray, Outdoor Bug Killer, etc.

I am mostly thinking about what you see in aerosol cans at Walmart, Home Depot, etc.

Are they pretty much all pyrethroids or are there significant differences iin their ingredients and formulations?

Flying insect killer stays in the air long enough for flies and other flying bugs to fly through it. Crawling insect killer applies directly to the insect.

Each kind of bug killer is then adjusted for dose. It takes more to kill a fly than a wasp.

For most of those (pyrethroid family) it will be differences in application and mode of transport. Hornet spray may shoot in a long (10-15ft) stream and foam on contact so it sticks to the nest and you don’t get stung. Room foggers are the opposite they spray in a fine mist that hangs in the air and settles slowly on all surfaces. Ant and roach sprays (perimeter sprays) have formulations that don’t quickly degrade (making them unsuitable for broad application) and may contain additives to adhere to surfaces and/or the bugs as they walk through. Powders are sometimes used under appliances and cabinets that last a long time and coat any bug that walks through it.

It’s the same really with any pesticide family. After mode of action (pesticide chemical) the important thing is getting it where you want it and keeping it away from where you don’t.

I have used most if them on all bugs. It’s basically the same stuff just packaged differently. And like the poster above said it’s mostly mode to get to the bugs.
Almost anything will work. WD40 or Triflow is a great bug killer too.
