There is a lot that goes into kosher preparation but for food to be halal (permissible) in Islam is pretty simple.

No alcohol, no pork, and any land animal meat should be slaughtered according to “zabiha” guidelines. 

This involves swiftly cutting the jugular and carotid arteries of the land animal with a sharp knife as well as invoking God. This procedure is intended to ensure that the blood drained from the carcass.

Also, some groups also have varying opinions on the scope of permissable of animals/mammals (like sea creatures or beasts-of-burden).
