the difference between (W) and (D) wide boots

So I’m trying to buy winter boots for someone, and I’m utterly confused by some of the sizes on the website. Some of the wide boots are marked as (D) wide while others as (W). Unfortunately their website does nothing to explain this, and they dont seem to have an email address I can send inquiries to, and my Google-fu has yielded no explanations either. Can anyone here explain this?

There is a shoe width sizing chart by letter grade. A **D** is average width for a man, while an E is wide, and an EE is extra wide, and a C is narrower. For women a B is a normal width, while a C is wider. The same letter size matches to the same physical dimensions, regardless of gender.

W is used as a generic Wide marking without getting into specific sizes.
