the significance of the Chern-Simons Theory

Imagine the universe is a big, interwoven, interconnected spider web. The web is made up of things called ‘fields.’

The Chern-Simons theory is a theory that investigates how the field twists and turns and bends and folds when things change.

There are properties of that spider web that “must be so”; just like any good spider web must look like a web, there are fundamental things about fields that must be true.

The Chern-Simons theory investigates fundamental things about fields, especially at super-cold temperatures where particles act in simple and fundamental ways.
