People have already given good explanations of the license, but I’d just like to make something clear, since I often see a lot of people getting confused about this. You ONLY need a TV license to:
1. Watch or record TV broadcasts, regardless of TV channel.
2. Use the BBC iPlayer.
That’s it. Despite popular belief, you do not need a license for any of the following:
1. Any other streaming service, be it ITVX, Netflix, YouTube or anything else.
2. Video games.
3. Listening to the radio.
4. DVDs or similar.
5. Simply owning a TV.
Just wanted to clear this up since a lot of people get this wrong.
