There are 10s/100s of pollutants. Hydrocarbons, VOCs, free radicals, dust, smog, microplastics, and more. Why are only CO2 emissions so universally used as a metric for climate targets? Surely measuring just the greenhouse effect isn’t sufficient as an indicator of overall climate health.

Certainly not. The greenhouse effect is the longterm planet-encompassing result of pumping an insane amount of greenhouse gases into the air.

It is not the only thing we worry about when setting environmental goals, but usually these goals are set on a more local level. We in America really do not care about the smog or VOC’s floating around in Bangkok.
