An area of thr country, basically from Texas to Michigan, will suffer at least 1 day a year with highs approaching 150F. It will be unlivable at least in the summer, and possibly year round. People living there will be displaced and wildlife will die off.
A “belt” is just a (contiguous?) region – you have “the Bible belt” or “the sunshine belt” currently. Regions that have a lot of religious people or a lot of sun, respectively.
If you were to draw a map of the places that are predicted to experience a heat index of 125F regularly, it will look like a swathe of the country, like the region of 90s that’s shown on weather maps in the country currently.
