Like pretty much all waves, sound can transfer energy.

Shorter wavelengths are more focusable/localizable which is why ultrasonics is used. You can transfer more energy across a smaller area. Try drilling a hole with a super loud 20 HZ subwoofer–it’s not practical (wavelength is about 17m).

Transfer enough energy to a material and you will cause it to break–that’s why we drop bombs on buildings, and throw bullets at people to destroy them.
