What a FSA is and how it works

I just started a new job and they offer FSA. I’m 30 and still pretty healthy. I only go to the dr like 1-3 times a year. I’m not on any meds nor do I have to buy any medical equipment. Are FSA still worth it? Can I use the money to help pay for my mom’s meds/medical office visits?

I’ve been told that if I don’t use the money in the account, it pretty much goes away, right?

Basically, it’s a savings account that’s funded with money taken out before you pay your taxes. Additionally, you have access to all of the funds day 1.

You can use it for pretty much any medicine, OTC or prescription, copays, dental work, and a whole host of other things. I even bought a breathalyzer when I was trying to finish off what I had in my account one year.

Main thing is to remember its gone if you dont use it. Many offer a $500 rollover now, but only put in what you think you may use.

Just a nice way to pay for medical stuff and knock a few bucks off your taxes. [Check out the FSA Store for more information. ](https://fsastore.com/)
