What are carcinogens, how do they work in the cells and how do scientists know what is and what isn’t a carcinogen?

Carcinogens are things that have the ability to change the genome and form cancers. Cancers come about when typical replication of the DNA sequence for cells is somehow disrupted or fails. So basically, stuff that can mess with your body and potentially (Not always guaranteed) give you cancer.
