What are periods and why do they happen

In the simplest terms, a period is the shedding of a liner that is inside of a woman’s uterus. Over the time of a month, a woman’s uterus develops a layer that will be used to hold onto a embryo. If no embryo attaches itself to the layer, the body sheds the layer. This is the period.
