Recombinant DNA means taking DNA from two different organisms and combining them together. For example, scientists often use a gene from jellyfish called GFP for Green Fluorescent Protein, because it glows bright green when exposed to UV light. We take that gene and add it to a bacteria cell, which then glows green under UV light. We can use this is a visual marker to visually see which bacteria have picked up the new DNA we wanted to incorporate. This is because another gene was also added to the bacteria, one that doesn’t have a visual identification marker. But we can use the green glowing to be sure the actual gene of interest has made it into the bacteria.

So, recombinant antibodies are antibodies produced using recombinant DNA, which is genes from multiple organisms spliced together onto a single piece of DNA.
