What are the factors that determine the best performing currency of the year?

Recently came across an article that said the Hong Kong dollar was the best performing currency in the Asia region in 2024, followed closely by the Indian Rupee and the Singapore dollar.

How do you decide that?

You would have to share the article. “Best performing currency” isn’t a particularly formalized term.

Generally speaking you might hear people talk about best preformatting relative to the USD (US Dollars). That would mean the currency that has “gone up” the most. “going up” means each unit of that currency can be traded for more USD than before. And it has to be relative to another currency, because it gets really complicated and hypothetically something could go up relative to USD but down relative to a third currency with it’s own unique relationship to USD

But again, this isn’t a universally agreed upon term especially when used by articles for laypeople.
