If I look at the back of my hand and look closely, there are little lines that create triangular shapes on my skin. It’s not the veins. Why are they like that?

It’s just extra skin that allows for a wide range of movement. I’m assuming it’s in those patterns because it’s most efficient that way. Its like a grid basically. The skin on your hands needs to be extra flexible and durable. The pattern kind of reminds me of elephant skin and elephant skin is known for being tough. So I imagine that grid pattern allows for duribility without too much loss of sensitivity or flexibility.
