What are these black dots under my skin on my thumb that appear after using a lighter too much?

Tiny bruises. Using a lighter flint is quite tough on the skin of your thumb, so as you stretch it with repeated lighter lighting you will get tiny burst capillaries (blood vessels) under the skin. It’s pretty much harmless, and if you swap hands for using a lighter they will most likely go away in a couple of days.
