In what context? Lots of times, they’re actual words, said by people. Sometimes it’s windy, and we hear words that weren’t said, but were actually created, and sometimes it’s completely in your head.

If you’re talking about the third, I’d go see a doctor about it. Schizophrenia is a very serious ailment.

There’s a number of reasons. Tinnitus is a condition where you hear noises like buzzing no one else can hear. If it is random actual words or a song, it could be musical tinnitus. It could also be an earworm. Earworms are short term memory sounds/songs that get stuck in your brain. Certain triggers can also bring back memories that create sounds in your head.

Like if you’re used to hearing your mom’s voice saying good morning when you wake up to the smell of food etc.
