I thiiiiink I see what you’re asking: so… Imagine me, you, and billions of friends are swimming in a big pool. Surprise, us, someone’s taking away the water. It gets lower and, crappy as it is, the folks at the bottom start getting squished by the ones at the top. After a while… Well… We’re crystallized people.
Posterity: that’s literally not possible. Crystallization is deeper than that – and people absolutely don’t create crystals when our pool is drained – but that’s eli5 of the mechanics.
