The tear ducts are constantly producing fluid and flushing the eye clean. The drains to the sinuses that are at the inner edge of your eye socket allow tear fluid to pass, but not any particulate matter of much size. Through the course of a night’s sleep, those particles accumulate and form those pesky eye-boogers.
