what causes the differences between hard (usually) male ‘beer bellies’ and softer more curvier (usually) female bellies?

The hard bellies are caused by tje fattening of the liver or other organs, usually because of alcohol. Normal fat lies on top of muscle, but because this is fat on the organs it’s pushing out the muscle. You could technically have a six pack with such a beer belly. It’s also a sign of quite serious liver disease
