I’m sorry I don’t know the actual chemistry, but it could merely be that the oil soaked in so well to the fabric that it basically got between the fibres and the adhesive of the ‘gold’ skin, causing them to de-bond.
The lipids in coconut oil are very penetrating in that regard. Hence being used as a hair and skin treatments etc. small molecules I guess. But that’s my unscientific explanation.
