Watching a clip of the Mets winning the NL Pennant in 1986 and hundreds of fans ran on the field tearing up the grass and mobbing the players. I realized I havent seen this at a pro event in years. On the field security is not some overwhelming force. We do see it in college but this seems to be with a wink and a nod from the school. When the Phillies won the World Series literally no fan ran on the field. What did pro sports do differently?

Aggressive prosecution of people who did it. Lifetime bans. Criminal charges. You step in the field of play and you’re toast.
Security isn’t overwhelming at these events, but it is heavy.
In some European leagues I believe they’ve even gone so far as to sanction the teams – punishing them in the standings if they can’t control their fans.
And, as one particularly stupid person learned a few weeks ago, you might get tackled by a man-monster NFL player who takes down 340 pound linemen for a living in full pads.
