What do consultants do? I seriously don’t understand what they are especially since you can be a consultant in a completely different field than another consultant? What are you actually doing?

I help you solve problems that you are unable to solve with your own skill set (well, at least in your mind). I have expertise in certain things that you don’t. Sometimes it just means having a set of fresh eyes. (I do find that there are amazingly talented people in every company with untapped potential, but that keeps me employed.) I’m an independent contractor or associated with a consulting firm and am contracted out on a per project or hourly basis.
