What do consultants do? I seriously don’t understand what they are especially since you can be a consultant in a completely different field than another consultant? What are you actually doing?

I’m an engineer, but perform consulting in a very specific niche field. My company won’t let me put my stamp on a design (nor would I want to) but I can advise the design engineers on best practices before they put their stamp on a design.
Stamp = you are liable if it’s a bad design and someone gets hurt, or it doesn’t function as intended
