What do the letters on my router mean

My router has lights that pop up for US/DS, online, 2.4 and 5ghz i understand that 2.4/5ghz is the wifi and 5 is better for shorter distance than 2.4ghz but what does the US/DS mean and can I also get some suggestions for a new router, this one is pretty beat

US = upstream = uploading. Whatever data is coming from your devices on the network through the router, through the modem and then to the ISP.

DS = downstream = downloading. Whatever data you’re receiving from the ISP through the router and then onto your devices.

Your ISP will probably have a recommended / compatible router and modem list. It’s good to go through this list, they might not be the absolute 100% top of the line best devices, but they are more likely to be compatible with your service and cause the fewest issues in troubleshooting if you do have service issues.
