So from what I’ve read, the closest I can grasp is that a producer (I was thinking in terms of what a producer does for a podcast, but obviously film producer is what comes up when you search) is kind of like the manager of the project? Can anyone give a better explanation for me, especially in terms of a podcast if you can? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is basically the manager of the podcast and not very different from a film producer. They basically oversee the complete process of producing the podcast: planning episodes, making sure the correct guests are invited, making sure the episode is edited and finished on time, promoting the podcast, getting sponsors on board, etc…
They don’t have to do all of this necessarily themselves, but they are keeping track of the day-to-day business of the podcast and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Given a pile of money, or time, or whatever resource is relevant, a producer is the one who is supposed to turn that pile of resources into a finished product, be that a movie, a TV show, a podcast, whatever. They “produce” (“bring forth into existence”) the movie/show/podcast/whatever from that pile of resources. That means they are in charge of every business decision about how those resources get spent on things. “Manager” is a pretty good substitute word for the role. If the project was a company, they’d more or less be CEO or CFO of that company.
Before I better understood the role, I often got it confused with “Director”. They both sound like they’re in charge to some extent. And they are, just in different things. A “director” is concerned more about the look and feel of whatever is being made. They’re the ones who “put their signature touch” on something. The visionary. The producer, on the other hand, works more on the business side. They’re calling the shots on what the project can and can’t afford to do. The director is generally below the producer on the totem pole of a project because of this.
A director’s goal is to ensure the product comes out a *certain way*. A producer’s goal is to ensure the product comes out *at all*.
A producer is the person that makes everything happen, arranges interviews, print scripts, makes sure everyone is on the studio when its time to stream.
A film needs a production team, with several roles inside the team. Some producers handle budget, crew and logistics, others handle financing. It’s divided in different roles like executive producer, line producer, chief of production
more or less, yes. the producer is the project lead, the one who keeps the various departments working together, makes various executive level decisions, and is generally the highest authority on the project. Hes the one that solicits the scriptwriters for scripts, the final decision on which actors get the role, finds the financial backers to pay for the film, etc, etc.
they may also have other duties in the production (for example, the producer might also be the director, actually controlling the day to day shooting of the film, or even a one of the actors in the story) but generally the producer is the guy in charge of the whole project, and the one the productions financiers will hold accountable for its success or failure.
They’re essentially the project manager. Although for things like podcasts and music they’re also kinda like the “director” In the sense that they’re responsible for the overall sound of the project. They make sure the recordings have the best takes and typically handle the final mix/mastering. They’ll also facilitate minor re-writes of songs
