So from what I’ve read, the closest I can grasp is that a producer (I was thinking in terms of what a producer does for a podcast, but obviously film producer is what comes up when you search) is kind of like the manager of the project? Can anyone give a better explanation for me, especially in terms of a podcast if you can? Thanks in advance.

more or less, yes. the producer is the project lead, the one who keeps the various departments working together, makes various executive level decisions, and is generally the highest authority on the project. Hes the one that solicits the scriptwriters for scripts, the final decision on which actors get the role, finds the financial backers to pay for the film, etc, etc.
they may also have other duties in the production (for example, the producer might also be the director, actually controlling the day to day shooting of the film, or even a one of the actors in the story) but generally the producer is the guy in charge of the whole project, and the one the productions financiers will hold accountable for its success or failure.
