So from what I’ve read, the closest I can grasp is that a producer (I was thinking in terms of what a producer does for a podcast, but obviously film producer is what comes up when you search) is kind of like the manager of the project? Can anyone give a better explanation for me, especially in terms of a podcast if you can? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is basically the manager of the podcast and not very different from a film producer. They basically oversee the complete process of producing the podcast: planning episodes, making sure the correct guests are invited, making sure the episode is edited and finished on time, promoting the podcast, getting sponsors on board, etc…
They don’t have to do all of this necessarily themselves, but they are keeping track of the day-to-day business of the podcast and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
