I assume there’s some sort of intention when doing anything, but what exactly do people mean by this statement?

You’ve just come home from a long day at work or school and you’re dead tired but you need to eat. You throw together a quick meal that gets the job done and is tasty but is pretty utilitarian. Maybe you take some shortcuts along the way cause it’s faster. You’re intending to create, and maybe you even do a good job but it’s not the sole focus of your endeavor and you have other priorities.
The next day you’re making a big dinner for family/friends to honor a special occasion. You want the food to be an important part of the day so you’ve taken care to match the food to the guests’ tastes and even use an old family recipe that relates to the occasion. As you prep the ingredients you do it the way you were taught as a child by your parents. You think through each step and direct your focus as you work, making decisions that reflect the significance of the event. That’s creating with intention.
While relevant, it’s not so much about materials or time or raw effort or expense, but rather the thought you put into the decisions that come up step by step – why you picked that ingredient, how you decided to put it together a certain way, etc.
