So the problem was that when she recorded her previous albums, she didn’t own the recordings – her record label did. Then they sold the rights to the recordings to someone else, against her wishes.
So she re-recorded all of the songs, one album at a time. She had her band play all of their original parts and she sang the songs over again, almost identically but still new.
She also added new songs, but the important part is that by re-recording all of the songs, she owns the new recording. If she can get fans to listen to only the new albums, then the owner of her old albums won’t get any money.
I think it just encourages hard core fans to buy “mostly the same album but with 3 remixes/extra songs” to boost sales.
It’s just capitalism. I find it hilarious that people are upset about this. I mean is Taylor Swift a monopoly that needs broken up so other artists have a “fair chance” to have a #1 record?
