What does umami taste like? I’m so frustrated as I went through several reddit posts explaining it and still don’t get it

Some say it tastes like MSG or pork or soy sauce, I don’t have MSG/soy sauce where I live, I don’t eat pork. Is the aftertaste of tomatoes umami?

There are many things that have umami flavor. But umami is a flavor, it cannot taste like anything else.

Any meat you eat has umami flavor.

Tomatoes have umami flavor but the taste is not just umami. So umami does not taste like tomatoes. Tomatoes have some umami taste in them.

Just like sweet does not taste like chocolate. Chocolate flavor includes sweet.
