What exactly causes ocular hypertension?

Many articles just say hypertension is caused by a build up of fluid in the eye. Okay, but stating a very direct and technical cause doesn’t really help the average reader. Why would the body randomly have fluid build up then? Is it because lifestyle (prolonged use of computers, low-lighting, etc), environment, genetics, luck, or what?

It’s an increase in the pressure of the fluid, which has a whole lot of causes. High blood pressure can contribute. Poor diet, too much sodium, genetic predisposition, all can lead to the pressure going up. A weaker cornea can lead to damage at less pressure and a stronger/denser cornea can protect against higher pressures (within fairly low limits).

It’s really too varied and complex to give a simple cause.
