What exactly is Scale Rate Pay and how does it work?

I am currently looking at prospective jobs and obviously there are filters that narrow down the job that I’m really looking for. In the “Pay Scale and Grade” filter, the options are as follows: Not Listed, AD-04, ES-00, GS-09, GS-12, GS-11, GS-07, GS-13, GS-14, GS-08. Can anyone help me decipher these codes and maybe help me understand how this system functions?

The GS pay scale is right here, you just have to choose your locality: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/2020/general-schedule/

ES (ie SES) is here: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/salary-tables/20Tables/exec/html/EX.aspx

AD means administratively determined and means they set it based on your experience like a normal job.
