What exactly is the difference between a short movie and an episode of a TV show?

I noticed that short movies and episodes are almost the same in terms of time length (especially tv shows that are based off a book series for example Meg and Mog) But what is different in a short movie to an episode of a TV show?

The “material” difference between movies and TV shows are how they’re distributed: Movies are shown in theaters, and TV shows are broadcast. That distinction is more subtle in the era of streaming and on-demand video, but as far as production goes there’s never been a huge difference in how they’re made.
