In simple terms, it’s how everything that we know works together.

Example, when one person learns something he improves not just himself, but others around him too; this keeps happening and one person learning something reaches the farthest corners of the globe.

the sphere of human consciousness and mental activity especially in regard to its influence on the biosphere and in relation to evolution.

The definition differs a bit depending on who is describing it, but the key thing to remember with all of the definitions is that it a philosophical idea rather than something definite.

u/DBGYoutub is close with their definition, but just a little off. It’s *all* consciousness and mental activity, not just human. So, if AI (Artificial Intelligence) is created, that would also be a part of it, as is all mental activity and consciousness of animals and such too.

The term literally means the “sphere of reason”, so it’s easy to see why it’s often conflated with human thinking, as for a long time we have considered ourselves the only “thinking” creatures, but reason is not limited to just us.

Basically it’s the idea of the planet and everything on it as a sort of planetary superorganism.

In any event, Wikipedia has a succinct and easy to digest overview as does the human energy site (the latter of which should alert you to the fact that this is a woo-woo type idea, not a scientific one):
