what gives multivitamins that ‘vitamin taste?

They all seem to have that distinctive taste/smell. From when you open the package through to hours later when they still burp up in your stomach. Is it one or 2 of the vitamins/minerals, or is it a filler?

The only thing that kinda comes to mind is magnesium stearate. It’s common in nearly every vitamin and multivitamin pill.

There are a couple I can think of.

* Vitamin B2 has a distinctive bitter taste and is yellow. It turns your pee yellow too.
* Vitamin B1 also has a distinctive taste (but is not yellow).

As far as I know, the other vitamins are mostly tasteless, except Vitamin C which is tart and acidic but not distinctive otherwise.

No idea, but I’ll never get that smell out my nose after cleaning out a hoarders house. She had an absolute obsession with collecting vitamins and scattering them everywhere. I had to shower twice after coming home and I never did get the smell out of the painting she gave me, so I keep it behind all my incense as a barrier, lol.

I have no idea but to avoid the taste as much as possible I take vitamins with a carbonated drink. I take a swig of something, swallow a little to reduce air, pop in the vitamin, whip my head back and swallow. I will gag if it touches the back of my throat and creates that ‘stuck feeling’.

The carbonation hides that. Also, having liquid in your mouth prior to putting the pill in reduces the taste of it as well. I take a lot of supplements that help with ‘the change’ and fuck all if just one grazes my throat wrong.

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is the most likely culprit. Partly because it is essential for brain function and, being water soluble, can be depleted by dehydration and other means. Therefore, it can be found in every multi vitamin on the market- hense why that taste is everywhere.
If you have ever had pill form B1 supplements, you know how incredibly potent their smell truly is; I one time hit a lid off of a bottle on mine, in a cabinet, and the odor perforated throughout the room.
