Your brain has a receptor that activates when it receives gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA receptors are the primary way that your brain slows down or inhibits activity. The alcohol molecule is shaped kinda like GABA and activates those some receptors. So, your brain activity slows down.
