What happenes if the drill bit is spinning while the material is too?

Hi guys, I always had the question what would happen if the drill bit is spinning while the material you are drilling is too?

I asked many people I work with who operate the drilling machines at our company, but nobody would give me a good answer for it.

I really want to know what you think about this:)

Speed is relative. If the drill bit is spinning with 1000 rpm, the material with 500 rpm then the drill only has 500 rpm of speed relative to the material.

Quite a lot of lathes operate this way the object spins and the drill is held in place, what matters is the relative speed of the two objects.

You probably mean, what happens if the bit and the material spin in the same direction with the same rpm? In this case: nothing. You would not cut the material.

Asking your coworkers this can lead to a “random” drug test.

If the material is spinning against the direction of the drill, you increase the drilling speed just like you just upped your rpm.
