Electrons are rushing through your body, jumping from atom to atom.

This is dangerous for a few reasons. The heat generated can burn your body badly. More importantly, your body uses electric signals (i.e. electrons moving along nerves and such) to control and regulate itself, so the shock can interfere with this and stop your heart or toast your brain.
