what happens to human bones when someone gets stabbed, for example in their palm and a knife goes through. Does the bone shatter or just gets pierced?

considering the structure of the hand there is a good chance that the knife just passes thru the space between.
if the stirke has overwhelming force behind it or its a large blade it might evne get stuck in the bone, but anything strong enough to damage/break the bones in your hand carries a significant risk of just outright chopping off something.
