Your brain’s [Default Mode Network](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Default_mode_network) is running the show. When you are engaged in most tasks, other parts of your brain are more active. If you are just focused on a certain type of task, daydreaming, or not thinking about anything at all, the DFM is very active.

The DFM tends to inhibit signals between distant parts of the brain, and is believed to be responsible for some of the effects of psychedelic drugs.
