The human brain/body will do a lot to fulfill the need to procreate, by performing self pleasure you kinda trick your wiring into thinking you completed your species mission of said procreation and thus you relax and can evaluate things under a different light
Monkey brain want sex and you get desperate or lust for someone, then after masturbation you look at that opportunity/partner and realize you may not feel the same way since you have lost (or lowered/tamed) that innate desire
