For pure eli5, we need electricity to turn a motor which means we need the spinning part to be connected to electricity. This is hard cause the spinning part will tangle connected wires, so instead we can surround the spinning part in metallic ‘brushes’ that can carry electricity to the spinning part without getting tangled (cause if you brush something the brush doesn’t get stuck and slides off).

The thing is that the brushes are still rubbing with the spinning part, and if you’ve ever rubbed hands quickly you’ll know that rubbing things quickly makes it hot, so brushed motors get hot easily and the brushes wear out over time.

So brushless motors solve this whole issue and gives us a better way to turn electricity into movement. Idk how brushless motors work exactly though.
